MANILA, Philippines – Hidilyn Diaz celebrated her historic silver medal in the Rio Olympics by eating a pizza at the Dining Hall in the Olympic Village, while still leaving space for rice and adobo.
Diaz became the first Filipina to win an Olympic medal when she placed second in the women's 53-kg weightlifting event, and in the process ended the nation's 20-year medal drought in the Summer Games as well.
Diaz, who was in tears as she received her silver medal, went on to assist teammate Nestor Colonia in his bid in the men's 56-kg division. Unfortunately, Colonia could complete only one of six lifts and failed to medal.
After their events, Diaz, Colonia and their coaches trooped to the Dining Hall wherein the silver medalist expressed her gratitude to the Filipino people via Facebook Live.

"Thank you sa prayers," said Diaz as she walked to the line. "Thank you. At kakain na ako."
"Gusto ko ng pizza," she added. "Gusto ko ng pizza. Unhealthy ito, pero… puno ng cheese, kasing cheesy ko."
"Talagang gutom na ako pero nagbo-broadcast pa ako," she added.
Diaz also showed that she had a cup of rice to eat along with adobo.
"Nagdadala ako ng rice kasi may adobo sa kwarto," she said.
Diaz also asked the Filipinos to continue supporting the other athletes, including Colonia.
"Nestor did his best," she said. "He's an Olympian. To be here is an honor already."
