National team head coach Yeng Guiao said a big part of the 11-man pool that he brought for a training camp in Spain will make up the core of his lineup for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
That roster currently in Europe includes naturalized player Andray Blatche, Japeth Aguilar, Mark Barroca, Beau Belga, Robert Bolick, Poy Erram, Paul Lee, Gabe Norwood, CJ Perez, Kiefer Ravena and Matthew Wright.
That squad routed Congo 102-80 in their first tune-up game in Spain.
"More or less this is going to be the core," Guiao said in an interview on ANC's "Gametime" on Wednesday.
"Of course we left behind June Mar (Fajardo), Troy Rosario and RR Pogoy, they're still there playing in the finals and these 3 guys are almost sure (to make the list)."
With Fajardo, Pogoy and Rosario considered shoo-ins, Guiao said the coaching staff is looking for 2 more players who will complete their "final 12."
"We're just looking for 2 more guys. Ten guys are already assured a slot for the team," Guiao said.
"Of course, I don't want to mention this early but we're just looking for 2 more guys and part of the evaluation and assessment is going to be this training in Spain and the 2 games that we play against the visiting Australian team."
