MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Malditas, who are seeking to represent the Philippines in the coming Southeast Asian Games, reached their highest placing ever in the most recent FIFA women’s world rankings.
The Filipina squad placed 75th in the world, ahead of Guam and Laos, according to the August 2 update of the FIFA list.
The Malditas was also ranked 16 in Asia, just one place below Bahrain.
Last June, the Philippines went seven notches up following its performance in the AFC Asian Women's Cup qualifiers.
The Filipinas may have failed to advance to the second round of the qualifiers, but their performance gained enough merit to improve their ranking from No. 83 to No. 76.
The Malditas are still seeking the thumbs up sign from the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) before they could join other Filipino delegates in the SEA Games.
The US remained on top of the women’s ranking, followed by Germany and Japan.
