Pasay Voyagers defended home turf by thwarting visiting Bacoor City Strikers 83-78 in the 2019 MPBL Lakan Cup at Cuneta Astrodome on Thursday.
The Voyagers led by as many as 16 points, but Strikers behind ex-PBA pro Marlou Aquino and RJ Ramirez made it a game late.
Ramirez hit a 3-pointer to make it 81-78 with 72 seconds remaining after Bacoor fell behind by 10 points in the fourth quarter.
But a free-throw Alejandrino Antonio Inigo off a technical foul on Gab Banal and a turnover by Strikers in the ensuing play meant Bacoor couldn't follow through on its comeback try.
Raymund Ilagan paced Voyagers with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, while Ramirez scored 15 for Strikers, who also got 13 from Aquino.
Pasay improved to 4-5 as it dealt Bacoor’s second defeat in 8 games.
In the other games, Bacolod Master Sardines (3-5) beat Zamboanga Family's Brand Sardines (4-4) 84-82, while Caloocan Supremos—Victory Liner (3-5) blasted Rizal Golden Coolers—XentroMall (1-6) 92-78.
Paolo Javelona starred in Bacolod’s victory with 27 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.
Thomas Torres, meanwhile, was Caloocan’s go-to-guy with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 steal.
