Losing the ONE lightweight title in Japan earlier this year, no doubt, hurt Eduard Folayang.

But the Team Lakay fighter has dusted off the stinging loss and moved on. Now, he writes another chapter to his accomplished career, and MMA legend Eddie Alvarez is in it.

“He’s one of those athletes that I spent a lot of time watching before,” Folayang said during the final press conference for ONE: Dawn of Heroes.

“It’s a huge honor for me to be able to test my skills against him.”

On Friday, Folayang squares off with hard-hitting Alvarez for a shot in the ONE Lightweight Tournament Grand Prix finals.

Some fans may be counting Folayang out, especially after seeing him being choked out by Shinya Aoki in their last fight. But Folayang welcomes another opportunity to redeem himself.

“I lost my belt last March (and) that chapter of my career has closed. It’s time to write another chapter of my journey,” Folayang said.

“(Alvarez) says this isn’t the right time, but I believe it’s God’s time.”
