MANILA, Philippines -- De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (CSB) forward Justin Gutang is day-to-day after suffering an injury to his left knee in their game against the Mapua University last week, his coach TY Tang announced on Tuesday.
Gutang, who is averaging 12.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, went down with just under five seconds left in CSB's game against the Cardinals last Thursday, and eventually had to be helped off the floor.
He did not play in CSB's come-from-behind 77-72 triumph over San Sebastian College, which allowed the Blazers to hike their record to 4-0.
"Justin is a day to day basis right now. He suffered a knee injury, but it's not really clear as to what is his injury," Tang told reporters after the game.
"So we're still trying to make sure everything is clear, if ever he comes back in," he added.
Tang could not specify what injury Gutang suffered, however, though he assured that the player's MRI came back clear.
"Kasi honestly ha, 'yung doctor, according sa doctor, so far lahat okay. Pero hindi ma-pinpoint ngayon kasi nga lahat okay. So I just wanna make sure that everything's clear," he said.
"Sa ngayon, meron siyang pain, and there's swelling," he also said.
Without Gutang, CSB spread out its offense and five players reached double-digits. Unique Naboa had 15 points, Chris Flores had 14, while Clement Leutcheu and Jimboy Pasturan had 12 points. Yankie Haruna, in his first game back since suffering a broken jaw, had 10 points.
"We wanna play and try to sustain on the defensive end, but again, on the offensive end, we wanna make sure that everybody can contribute in our team," said Tang.
