Didal finishes 5th in Street League Skateboarding, gets closer to Olympic dreams

Filipina skateboarding sensation Margielyn Didal boosted her chances of making it to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by claiming fifth place in the 2019 Street League Skateboarding World Tour at CA Skateparks Training Facility in Los Angeles on Sunday (Monday, Manila time).

Didal finished with 21.2 points to beat former world champion Leticia Bufoni of Brazil (21.0).

Her output was a less than a point away from a podium finish but it was still the highest finish ever by a Filipino in the prestigious tournament. 

“(It’s) such a big achievement skating,” Didal said in an Instagram post.

Didal rose to fame when she competed in the X Games Minneapolis 2018 and claimed gold in the 2018 Asian Games.

Eleven-year-old Brazilian Rayssa Leal won the LA competition by garnering 23.3 points.
