Azkals fans remain loyal despite loss to Kuwait

MANILA, Philippines – Despite failing to make it to the next round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Philippine Azkals received outpouring words of praise, support and encouragement on Twitter.

According to @hotmanila, the Azkals made a remarkable feat by popularizing football in the Philippines. 

“A year ago, the last thing I expected was football here in Manila, with a huge crowd cheering our team. That's the achievement,” said @hotmanila.

@RaymundMiranda echoed hotmanila’s statement.

“Soccer is now a real thing to Filipinos,” he said.

Meanwhile, @Iampaoloovejera and #claralovesyew the Philippine football team has come a long way since its humble beginnings.

“Malayo na ang narating niyo guys. Congratulations. Job well done,” said @Iampaoloovejera.

“Azkalswebelieve in you! They made it this far. It's already something to be proud of,” said @claralovesyew 

Twitter users @Imaeunicorn and @SarahMaeyer assured the Philippine Azkals of their support in the coming games.

“Be proud the Azkals made it this far, even though they lost, they did incredible!” said @Imaeunicorn.

“Dear #Azkals Rest assured our support are still with you next time. ?,” said @SarahMaeyer.

SNN correspondent Cheska Litton said the important thing for the Azkals is that the sport continues to flourish in the Philippines.

"We may not make it to the World Cup in 2014 or 2018 or even longer. Point is, Philippine football is growing and will continue to grow," she said through her Twitter account.

The #azkalswebelieve hashtag also placed second in Twitter trends worldwide
