As Game 1 of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals between TNT and Ginebra reached its critical stages, Terrence Jones ended up picking up reigning Best Import Justin Brownlee on defense.
It was certainly a sight to behold as Jones took the hardest assignment on defense for TNT.
Jones’ move was worth it though as Brownlee was slowed down in the fourth, ultimately only scoring one point, and TNT managed to hold on for a 95-92 win for a 1-0 series lead in the best-of-5.
“I just wanted to make it difficult for him,” Jones said on his defense against Brownlee.
“He’s a great player, an experienced player in this league. I just wanted to try to make it as tough as I can for him,” he added.
Jones conceded the fact that Brownlee is an uber-talented scorer and it’s almost impossible to complete shut him down.
But when facing scorers the caliber of Brownlee, it’s important to make them work for their offense and Jones’ length and activity in the fourth quarter definitely did just that.
“He’s a great scorer, he’s very versatile. He can score from the 3-point line, has a great mid-range game, and he could take you. So you just wanna crowd him and make it tough for him,” Jones said.
“It’s not possible to stop him completely because he can score on so many different ways but you know, you just wanna make it tough on him and that’s what I tried to do,” he added.
