MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-American guard Jordan Clarkson has been included in the line-up of the Philippine national basketball team for the upcoming Asian Games in Indonesia.
However, this is no guarantee that the Cleveland Cavalier will play for Gilas Pilipinas.
Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Ricky Vargas confirmed Tuesday that Clarkson's name was included in the 18-man line-up.
"Si Clarkson, nandoon sa listahan," he said. "We're interested in inviting Jordan."
Also included in the line-up is the core of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, which was tapped to represent the country in lieu of the TNT KaTropa.
TNT was originally all set to play for flag and country in the Asiad, but those plans were scrapped when several members of the team got involved in the infamous brawl with Australia earlier this month, leading to their suspension.
Also suspended is naturalized center Andray Blatche.
Though the Gilas players are set to serve their bans in the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and the POC are not taking any chances.
"POC will now forward this (line-up) to Indonesia," Vargas said.
Though he is included in the line-up, there is no guarantee that Clarkson will play for Gilas Pilipinas. As it stands, the SBP has yet to secure the Fil-Am guard's release from his NBA team.
Also yet to be determined is who will call the shots for the national team in the Asiad. Yeng Guiao is a possible candidate, but Vargas said this has not been finalized, either.
The Asian Games runs from August 18 to September 2 in Jakarta and Palembang.
