Yeng Guiao talks to the national team after practice. Handout

MANILA, Philippines -- The Gilas Pilipinas national team will begin to practice daily next week, as more of the players become available.

Coach Yeng Guiao made the announcement on Monday evening, after 10 players showed up to practice at the Meralco Gym.

Andray Blatche, Kiefer Ravena, Matthew Wright, Poy Erram, Beau Belga, Mark Barroca, CJ Perez, Gabe Norwood, and Paul Lee were all in uniform, while June Mar Fajardo was in street clothes.

"Next week, we'll practice every day," said Guiao.

"We're just waiting until the other guys get freed up from their schedules and are able to focus on our practices. Of course, we don't wish them to lose, kaya lang, pagka na-out sila, ibig sabihin pwede na sila mag-focus dito," he added.

Several members of the national team are still playing in the playoffs of the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup, but that will change by next week when only four teams are left.

Guiao was grateful for the players who still trained on Monday even though they have quarterfinal games, and stressed that those who were absent cannot be blamed.

"Mahirap talagang maghati ng attention, especially at this crucial stage. So we'll just have to manage whatever opportunities we have as of this point," he explained.

But the intensity of their practices will escalate next week, especially as Guiao wants the team to be at 70-80% before they leave for a training camp in Spain on August 4.

"Yung 30-20% kailangan habulin na namin doon, pagsampa ng August," he said.
