The Mandaluyong El Tigre—Data Land made the most out of their trips to the free-throw line to edge the Navotas Clutch 59-55 in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Datu Cup at Bataan People’s Center in Balanga on Wednesday.
The victory extended El Tigre’s streak to three since starting the tournament with a loss.
Ray Parks scored 19 points, while Gian Abrigo had a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Navotas, led by Monbert Arong’s 12 points, was able to keep it a tight game and even tied the score at 55-all with 47 seconds to go.
But Parks sank a floater and Jonathan Boholano made both of his free throws to save Mandaluyong from defeat.
El Tigre now have a 3-1 record, while the Clutch fell to 2-2.
In the second game, the Bataan Risers defended their home turf with a 62-58 win against the General Santos Warriors.
It was total team effort for Bataan, led by Pamboy Raymundo's 12 points.
The Risers thwarted the 15-point effort of Chris Masaglang.
