Keith Thurman doesn't just want to defeat Manny Pacquiao. He wants to put on a show while doing so.
The American boxer promised that his WBA (super) welterweight title defense against the "Pacman" will be a "tremendous show," even as he stressed that he intends to go for a knockout.
"My prediction is I'm going for the knockout," Thurman declared, the latest in a stream of trash-talk from the unbeaten fighter who earlier said he wanted to "crucify" Pacquiao.
Yet he also vowed to put on a fight that will live up to his standard, as Thurman takes pride in making "the best fights in the welterweight division."
"Keith Thurman vs. Shawn Porter was a tremendous fight. Keith Thurman vs. Danny Garcia was better than Danny Garcia vs. Shawn Porter. Why? Because Keith Thurman makes tremendous fights," he said.
Thurman was not impressed with Pacquiao's most recent bout against Adrien Broner last January, claiming that "there was nothing tremendous about it." Pacquiao won that bout via unanimous decision, in what was his first defense of the WBA regular welterweight title.
"You wanna see a tremendous fight, you go to Thurman. There's a 't' in Thurman, because Thurman delivers tremendous fights," he said. "Not only am I a tremendous fighter, not only am I exciting, not only will the fight be great, win, lose, draw, it don't matter."
"If I'm on the floor, if he's on the floor, you're gonna be entertained from the start of the bell."
Of course, victory remains Thurman's top priority – and proving his worth as the big name in the welterweight division.
"I'm just here to showcase my skills and my talent, and show everybody why Keith 'One Time' Thurman is the undefeated welterweight champion of the world," said the 30-year-old Thurman.
"Manny Pacquiao has never been a super champion, he's never beaten a super champion and nothing will change come Saturday night," he guaranteed.
