American fighter Mikey Garcia is optimistic he'll be able to land a fight against Manny Pacquiao soon.
The brother of boxing coach Robert Garcia said talks were going smoothly between their camps before the pandemic broke out.
"It seemed like things were shaping up pretty well with Manny Pacquiao, getting on board to maybe getting a fight with me. Things went south with the whole pandemic and everything had to wait," the 4-division champion said in an article posted on BoxingScene.com. Then there's also effort being put forth by Top Rank Inc.'s Bob Arum to pit Pacquiao against Terence Crawford.
But Garcia said he received assurance from MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons that he is leading the pack as far as the Pacquiao sweepstakes is concerned.
"Hearing his team, Sean Gibbons, say that that's a fight that they want, that they're excited to push forward on that, that's exciting," Garcia said.
"That's a fight that I've always wanted . . . a fight that I think fans would love and appreciate."
