Matthew Wright refused to be intimidated by Barangay Ginebra.
And that “no fear” mentality became Phoenix’s key to beating the defending Commissioner's Cup champion on Friday.
“Everyone’s so preoccupied with Ginebra and their size, their lineup, but they’re human just like we are, they put their pants on one leg at a time just like me,” said Wright in an article posted on ABS-CBN Sports following their 111-103 victory over the Gin Kings.
“Obviously, we respect them. But sometimes we feel like they get a little too much respect and teams are afraid to go at them. Especially with the crowd, it gets intimidating.”
Wright fired 32 points in the win.
Together with Richard Howell, who added 31 points, the Fuel Masters overhauled a 14-point deficit for their 4th win in 8 games.
“I think this was the biggest game of the season for us. It’s a tight PBA race. We’re just focused on the next 3 games, we’re trying to simplify it,” Wright added.
