MANILA, Philippines – Fans of the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) Blue Eagles rejoiced on Tuesday while supporters of the National University (NU) Bulldogs were disappointed with the results of the UAAP Eligibility Committee’s meeting.
Ateneo’s center Greg Slaughter was reportedly approved by the Eligibility Committee, but NU’s celebrated rookie, Bobby Ray Parks Jr., did not get the committee’s nod.
The Eligibility Committee did not release an official statement pending a finals approval from the UAAP Board.
The UAAP Board will meet on July 5 to discuss the eligibility issues.
Various sports analysts also confirmed the news on Twitter.
Inboundpass.com columnist/manager Chris Soler tweeted “Ateneo’s Greg Slaughter has been cleared to play in UAAP Season 74.”
ABS-CBN Sports’ TJ Manotoc later tweeted that NU can appeal to the UAAP Board on July 5.
Manotoc also tweeted that at least one UAAP board member will still strongly question Slaughter’s eligibility on July 5. ]
Speculations ran rampant on social networking sites yesterday as to why Parks did not get approved.
Sports analyst Rick Olivares tweeted that Parks may be missing some documents and that NU will have until the July 5 meeting to complete them.
“What (those documents) are exactly, I don’t know,” Olivares added.
