MANILA – National University (NU) head coach Babes Castillo confirmed Wednesday that ace setter Jasmin Nabor as well as veteran spiker Jorelle Singh may not return to the Lady Bulldogs in the next collegiate season.
Nabor had implied in a recent tweet that she will not play for the Lady Bulldogs this coming collegiate season, though the tweet has since been deleted.
Speaking to Castillo after BaliPure’s game against Tacloban in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) on Wednesday, the coach said that Nabor has yet to make any formal confirmation to him regarding her status for UAAP Season 81.
However, he admitted that Nabor’s return to the NU women’s volleyball team is “doubtful.”
“Doubtful,” said Castillo, “But hoping.”
The same holds true for Singh, who is set to enter her fifth season in the UAAP. According to Castillo, Singh had already told him towards the end of Season 80 that she may not return for her final playing year, due in part to personal problems.
Castillo revealed that he contacted Nabor two days ago and was told that the player will text him of her plans. However, he received no such message and was surprised when Nabor’s tweet blew up on social media.
That Nabor may not play for National U in Season 81 saddens Castillo, who has coached the setter since high school. Castillo made it clear that he felt no tension with Nabor that could have led to the player’s decision.
Both Nabor and Singh are still enrolled in National U.
Currently, both Nabor and Singh play for the PayMaya High Flyers in the PVL Reinforced Conference, where they are coached by former NU coach Roger Gorayeb.
