MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-American Ana “The Hurricane “Julaton dominated Angel Gladney for a unanimous decision win in their 8-round non-title fight in Florida.
According to Examiner.com, Julaton pummeled her opponent with her vaunted right hand, which eventually opened a cut in Gladney’s left cheek.
The brutal beating nearly forced the referee to stop the bout.
Two of the ringside judges scored the fight 7 rounds-to-1 in favor of Julaton. The other judge saw the Fil-Am boxer leading 6 rounds-to-2.
The bout took place at a 128-pound catchweight.
"I knew Angel was going to be at her comfortable weight… I am still learning, and with this being my 12th pro fight,” Julaton said.
Julaton is the first Filipino-American to win the Women's World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight and International Boxing Association (IBA) super bantamweight titles.
Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, who witnessed Julaton’s victory, was pleased with his compatriot’s performance.
"I'll definitely be in the next [fight]," said the Fil-Am basketball coach, who steered Miami to the NBA Finals.
