MANILA – Barangay Ginebra gave Stanley Pringle a rousing welcome as they crushed NLEX, 100-85, in the explosive guard's first game with the franchise on Sunday at the Batangas City Coliseum.
In his first game since getting traded from NorthPort, Pringle scored 16 points and added 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Justin Brownlee was superb as usual, putting up 37 points on 14-of-19 shooting, along with 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 5 steals for Ginebra.
The Gin Kings broke the game open late in the first quarter, unleashing a 5-0 blast in the final minute of the frame to claim a 10-point lead, 27-17.
NLEX rebounded in the second period, but the Gin Kings were never really threatened. Ginebra continued to pour it on in the third frame, where they led by as much as 27 points, 76-49, after back-to-back triples by LA Tenorio with 3:38 to go.
Pringle capped his debut with an and-1 that gave the Gin Kings a 95-72 lead with five minutes left, and Ginebra would cruise to victory from there.
Tenorio finished with 11 points, and Greg Slaughter added 10 markers as NLEX shot 49% from the field.
Poy Erram led NLEX with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Tony Mitchell had 17 points and 8 boards. Jericho Cruz added 12 markers and 5 assists.
Ginebra racked up its second straight win to improve to 4-3, while NLEX failed to build on last week's triumph over Meralco. The Road Warriors dropped to 1-7 in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup.
