MANILA -- The Gilas Pilipinas youth team arrived in Doha, Qatar on Saturday for their final training before they head to the 2019 FIBA Under-19 World Cup.
The Batang Gilas are scheduled to have exhibition games against two club teams in Qatar to further improve their defense and team chemistry in preparation for the World Cup.
In a Facebook post of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), U-19 Philippine team head coach Sandy Arespacochaga said "we will use this time to work on our defensive schemes and rotations."
The Batang Gilas are set to battle the best youth teams in the world on June 29 to July 7 in Heraklion, Greece, where the team is eyeing to seal at least a quarterfinal ticket.
The team will be bannered by young big men Kai Sotto and AJ Edu along with National University stalwarts Gerry Abadiano, Terrence Fortea, Dave Ildefonso and Carl Tamayo.
Completing the young Gilas squad are Bismarck Lina, Geo Chiu, Rhayyan Amsali, Joshua Ramirez, Migs Oczon, James Spencer, and Dalph Panopio.
The Arespacochaga-mentored squad will fly to Greece from Qatar on June 27.
