MANILA - “Trainer of the Year” Freddie Roach has fired his assistant trainer Michael Moorer, a former world heavyweight champion.

According to Brad Cooney of, Moorer was asked to leave his position at the Wild Card Gym “due to a conflict of personalities that had been creating issues amongst the wild card stable.”

Cooney wrote that the primary reason was a “personality conflict between he (Moorer) and Manny Pacquiao, and he (Moorer) and Amir Khan.”

Roach was quoted by saying, “Amir Kahn approached me and said; Freddie I want you to be my trainer, not Michael Moorer.”

The world’s pound-for-pound king reportedly had the same sentiments regarding Moorer.

Roach, meantime, revealed that there were “no hard feelings” when he fired Moorer from his gym located at Hollywood, California.

He thanked the former American boxer for his brief involvement in the Wild Card. Roach also trained Moorer when he was still a fighter.

Moorer, 41, has won the WBO light heavyweight championship as well as the WBO, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles.

He retired from professional boxing with a record of 52 wins (with 40 knockouts), four losses and one draw.
