Jemal Vizcarra scored a career-high 27 points to steer Parañaque Patriots Yabo Sports to a thrilling 89-83 victory over Valenzuela SPV TOP Marketplace in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Lakan Cup at Valenzuela Astrodome on Wednesday.

The Patriots clawed back from 20 points down by turning up the heat in the fourth quarter, limiting the visitors to just 15 points.

"Talagang gumana ang teamwork namin, di kami sumuko especially sa defense," said Vizcarra, who nailed 5 triples and dished out 3 assists for Parañaque.

Valenzuela, led by Chris de Chavez, was comfortably holding a 68-56 advantage going into the final period when the Patriots uncorked a 20-4 run.

Valenzuela had its final hurrah when De Chavez drilled a trey that pulled the host to within 86-83 with a minute remaining.

However, Parañaque pulled out all the stops to ensure its first victory in the tournament.

In the other game, Bicol Volcanoes bounced back from an opening day loss to Basilan Steel by hammering out an 82-70 victory over Pampanga Long Giant Lanterns.

Ronjay Buenafe came off the bench with 20 points, shooting 6-out-13 from the field to help the volcanoes improve their ranking to 1-1.
