MANILA, Philippines –Dodie Boy Peñalosa Jr. is following the footsteps of his uncle and father as he attempts to win his 5th straight bout on June 25.
Peñalosa is the son of former world flyweight champion Dodie Boy Peñalosa Sr., and the nephew of former world bantamweight champion, Gerry Peñalosa.
Dodie Boy Jr. will battle Jeffrey Jimenez in his 5th professional bout at the Cebu Coliseum.
The younger Peñalosa totes a 4-0 card, and has stopped three of his prevoious opponents in the first round, according to AsianCorrespondent.com.
Peñalosa was a promising amateur and could have competed in the London Olympics in 2012, but turned professional in keeping with their family’s tradition.
The recently retired Gerry said that he is now focused on helping his nephew make a name for himself in the boxing arena.
