MANILA, Philippines—Veteran spiker Myla Pablo finally made her debut for Motolite in the 2019 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference on Wednesday, after recovering from a back injury.

Pablo, who signed with Motolite after parting ways with Pocari Sweat, was already cleared to play last Sunday against PacificTown-Army but was not fielded in by coach Air Padda.

She started against the Creamline Cool Smashers on Wednesday, scoring 2 points and sitting out the third set.

“Kinausap niya ako kahapon na mag-ready ako for today, so ayun nag-prepare ako for the game,” Pablo said of Padda.

“Siguro parang, kahit papaano nakatulong ako sa team ko. At least nabigay ko yung best pero I think kulang pa.”

Pablo’s back injury, a recurring problem for the former National University star, flared up again just a week before the start of the Reinforced Conference.

Because of it, she missed the entire first round and had to watch as Motolite labored to a 2-4 win-loss record.

The team dropped to 2-5 in her first game back, as Creamline came away with a 25-15, 25-20, 25-23 triumph.

Pablo acknowledged that she is still groping for form, having only practiced with her team for a week.

“So medyo naninibago ako sa loob ng court. Yung parang feel mo na parang kaunting galaw mo, sasakit? Pero di ko naramdaman kanina. Hindi ko iniisip,” she said.

“Basta sa sarili ko, gusto ko maglaro, yun lang. Para ma-ano ko yung sa court, pagdating ko sa court ayaw ko na maiilang ako.”

The good news for Pablo is that she played without pain, as her back only acted up once the game was over.

“Kanina, wala. Hindi ko naramdaman yung sakit ng back ko. After lang. Pero sabi naman ng doctor ko, normal lang naman daw na sumakit ang likod ko after the game,” she said.

Motolite will try to regain its winning ways on Saturday when it takes on BaliPure. Though Pablo said she is ready to play the whole game if necessary, she still leaves the decision to Padda.

“Hindi ko rin masasabi kung first six ako for next game,” she said, pointing out that Padda can also opt to put in Tots Carlos or Isa Molde.
