MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATED) Barangay Ginebra has acquired explosive guard Stanley Pringle in a blockbuster trade with the NorthPort Batang Pier.
The PBA Commissioner's Office on Tuesday afternoon approved the trade, which will send Pringle to Ginebra in exchange for Jervy Cruz, Sol Mercado, and Kevin Ferrer.
Ferrer had earlier stoked the trade rumors by posting pictures of himself and NorthPort coach Pido Jarencio in his Instagram story. Jarencio had been Ferrer's coach in University of Santo Tomas.
Pringle parts ways with NorthPort after a five-year stint that saw him become one of the most prolific guards in the PBA.
However, the top pick in the 2014 PBA Draft is still recovering from surgery to remove bone spurs in his right ankle, and has played in just two games in the on-going PBA Commissioner's Cup.
An MVP candidate last season, Pringle averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 2.6 steals per game for NorthPort in the Philippine Cup.
Even without Pringle, the Batang Pier have gotten off to a good start in the Commissioner's Cup. They currently own a 5-1 record, putting them at second place behind TNT KaTropa (6-1).
Ginebra, meanwhile, owns a 3-3 win-loss record.
