MANILA, Philippines -- Reigning PBA Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo is in no rush to return to the basketball court, as he continues to recover from a leg injury that he suffered in February.
While he can now walk without assistance, Fajardo is taking his time during the recovery process, and does not expect to play until December at the earliest.
"Sabi ni Doc (Dr. Raul Canlas), four months 'yung healing," Fajardo said during a recent conversation with Rain or Shine veteran Beau Belga on "Extra Rice."
"Tapos, the rest noon, parang therapy na lang, strengthening. Baka next year (makabalik), mga December," added the San Miguel center.
Belga advised Fajardo to prioritize his recovery, saying: "Importante doon, 'yung fully healed para hindi bumalik. Huwag mo madaliin."
Fajardo assured Belga that he was not rushing his rehab and therapy.
"Hindi ako nagmamadali. Parang tine-take ko 'yung time ko," he said. "Gusto ko, mag-heal talaga nang husto, 'yung 110% na pag-heal."
This does not mean that Fajardo is not working on his conditioning or on his game. In a previous interview with Dyan Castillejo, he said he is still doing exercises to strengthen his hamstring, glutes, and core.
And he told Belga that he intends to expand his skill set as well.
"Kung ano 'yung ginagawa ko dati, mas mag-i-improve pa ako," said Fajardo. "Tapos, titira na ako ng tres ngayon. Stretch five na ako."
