The Athletics bucked a slow start by holding the Cagers to just 13 points in the final period.
Early in the game, Batangas had a hard time getting its offense going with John Ylagan doing damage for Muntinlupa.
The Athletics eventually found their groove and engaged the Cagers in a tight battle in the next two quarters.
In the fourth quarter, Viernes, who was sporting a bandage over his right eye, rallied the Athletics by scoring 6 of their last 8 points to close out the visiting team.
In the other game, Marlon Monte saved the day for Nueva Ecija MiGuard by scoring the crucial baskets to help beat the Marikina Shoemasters, 78-76.
Monte scored 4 of Nueva Ecija's last 6 points to thwart the Shoemasters after the two teams figured in a close battle in the final quarter.
