Coach Mark Sangiao said Team Lakay became excited after hearing news that one of its own, Eduard Folayang, was penciled to take on MMA veteran Eddie Alvarez.
“Magkahalong excitement at motivation para sa team considering ‘yung status in Alvarez,” Sangiao said.
Among the most important factors that could decide the fight, the coach said, is Folayang’s conditioning.
Sangiao said this will allow the “Landslide” to execute the game plan while weathering anything that Alvarez could throw at him.
“Kailangang paghandaan ng husto, kailangang maganda ang kondisyon ni Eduard lalo’t babalik galing sa pagkatalo si Alvarez. Para kahit matumba, madaling makatayo,” said Sangiao.
A 4-time lightweight world champion, Alvarez is the only man in history to have claimed world titles in Bellator and the UFC. He is intent on cementing his status as an all-time great by also capturing the ONE world lightweight championship.
However, he hit a stumbling block in his ONE debut, as he ran into Russian knockout artist Timofey Nastyukhin.
Folayang is on a comeback trail after surrendering the lightweight belt to Shinya Aoki via submission at ONE: A New Era.
The two will meet in August in ONE Championship's "Dawn of Heroes" fight card at Mall of Asia Arena.
