Go for Gold downs CEU, stays unbeaten in PBA D-League

MANILA, Philippines – Go for Gold stretched its winning run to three games after defeating Centro Escolar University (CEU), 92-83, in the 2018 PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Leading the way for Go for Gold was Gab Banal, who had 21 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in the victory.

Vince Tolentino also shone in the game, as he tallied 20 points, six assists, and five rebounds while earning praise from head coach Charles Tiu.

"Vince is a really smart player," said Tiu. "He has great feel for the game, and he does a lot of good things for the team."

"We just maximized his skill set," he added.

Veterans Jai Reyes and Jerwin Gaco combined for 22 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

Go for Gold broke the game open in the second quarter, taking a 53-42 lead at the half and maintaining that lead all the way up to the final buzzer.

However, emotions still flared up in the fourth period, when CEU's Orlan Wamar threw the ball at Go for Gold's Kris Porter. Both players were called for technical fouls in the wake of the incident.

Go for Gold shrugged off the tension and went on to lead by as much as 15 points, 92-77, with 1:33 left to play.

Wamar led CEU with 17 points, while Pierce Chan had 14 points and nine rebounds.

The Scorpions have now lost to straight games to drop to 1-2 in the conference.

Quarters: 31-29, 53-42, 75-63, 92-83.
