BOCAUE, Bulacan – Defending champion Russia dismissed the challenge put up by Czech Republic as they progressed to the semifinals of the women's division of the 2018 FIBA 3x3 Basketball World Cup on Tuesday at the Philippine Arena.

Also making their way to the Final 4 were France, China, and Italy.

The Italians stunned the erstwhile unbeaten United States team, which was composed of members of the University of Oregon women's basketball team.

Russia 21, Czech Republic 14

After dropping their last game of the pool play to the United States, defending champion Russia vented its ire on Czech Republic in the quarterfinals. Anastasia Iogunova scored eight points, and Anna Leshkovtseva added seven markers as Russia took another step towards retaining its title.

France 19, Spain 17 (OT)

France advanced to the semifinals in thrilling fashion, outlasting Spain in the first overtime game of the quarterfinals. A cold-blooded two-pointer by Paula Palomares sent the game into extension, but France kept its cool as Christelle Diallo scored to open OT, before Johanna Tayeua broke free to score the game-winner off a wide-open lay-up.

Diallo finished with seven points, while Marie-Eve Paget had six and Tayeau added four markers for the sixth-seeded French team. Meanwhile, Palomares scored 10 points for Spain in the painful defeat.

France moves on to face Russia in the semis.

China 17, Hungary 14

Top overall seed China gutted out a tough victory over Hungary, thanks to the towering presence of Zhang Zhi Ting. Zhang scored a lay-up with 23.4 seconds left that helped the Chinese team hold off Hungary's final rally. She finished with seven points in the win, while Jiang JiaYin added six points.

Italy 17, United States 14

After going unbeaten in group play, the United States were shocked in the quarterfinals by a veteran Italian team. Giula Ciavarella scored the key jumpers that gave Italy a 12-9 record, before crowd favorite Rae Lin D'Alie added a bucket of her own. Back-to-back shots by Marcella Filippi put the finishing touches on Italy's win as they went up 17-12, and Team USA's final rally came up short.

Filippi scored six points, and D'Alie and Ciaverella each had five. They play China in the semifinals.
