BOCAUE, Bulacan – The United States, Russia, Czech Republic and Italy completed the quarterfinals cast in the women's division of the 2018 FIBA 3x3 Basketball World Cup.
Team USA completed a sweep of Pool C by routing Russia, but the defending champions still advanced to the last 8 with their 3-1 win-loss record.
The Czech Republic, meanwhile, handed Italy its first loss of the tournament, only to drop their last game as well. Still, both teams qualified to the quarters with identical 3-1 win-loss slates.
Here are the results of the women's games at the Philippine Arena:
Russia 22, Iran 12
Russia made it three wins in three games in Pool C with a comfortable victory over Iran. Anastasia Iogunova scored 10 points, while Alexandra Stolyar added six as the defending champions boosted their drive for the quarterfinals.
United States 22, Uganda 9
The United States primed up for their showdown with Russia by easily dismissing Uganda in their first game of the day. Erin Boley and Ruth Hebard each had seven points in the win. The American women needed just seven minutes and 39 seconds to complete the win.
Iran 21, Andorra 12
Iran ended its FIBA 3x3 campaign on a high note, beating Andorra for its first and only win of group play. This marks the first time that women wearing hijabs have won a FIBA 3x3 World Cup game. Saiedeh Elli led the Iranians with 11 points.
United States 21, Russia 13
In the featured game of the day, the American women completed a sweep of Pool C by handing the defending champions its lone loss of group play. University of Oregon star Sabrina Ionescu torched the Russians for 11 points.
Uganda 18, Andorra 12
Uganda doomed Andorra to a winless campaign in Pool C, using a balanced effort to take down their foes. Jamila Nansikombi had 7 points, Claire Lamunu added 6, and Sarah Ageno scored 4 in the win.
Italy 19, Indonesia 5
Italy stayed unbeaten in Pool A play with a dominant win over Indonesia. American-Italian star Rae Lin D'Alie shone once more, scoring eight points to lead the way for her squad.
Turkmenistan 18, Malaysia 14
Turkmenistan grabbed its first win in Pool A by outlasting Malaysia, with Ayna Gokova leading the way with 12 points.
Czech Republic 21, Italy 20
In a thrilling, back-and-forth contest, Czech Republic stayed unbeaten in Pool A after the slimmest of wins over Italy. The Italians, who were buoyed on by the Filipino crowd, took a 20-19 lead but could not finish off the job as Rae Lin D'Alie missed a potential game-winning jumper. Romana Stehlíková then broke their hearts by drawing a foul from "Rae-Rae" then calmly drilling two free throws for the win.
Malaysia 22, Czech Republic 18
Malaysia denied the Czech Republic a sweep of Pool A by pulling off an upset in their final game of the group round. Eugene Ting (eight points) and Fook Yee Yap (six points) led the way for the Malaysians as they handed the Czech their first loss of the competition. Nevertheless, Czech Republic still advanced to the quarterfinals along with Italy.
Turkmenistan 20, Indonesia 11
Turkmenistan doomed Indonesia to a winless campaign in FIBA 3x3 with a dominant win in their final group round game. Gokova was once again the star, scoring nine points for the 17th-seeded team in the competition.
