FIBA 3x3 World Cup Day 3: Latvia, 3 others earn men's quarterfinals spots

BOCAUE, Bulacan – Latvia, Poland, Slovania, and Ukraine advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2018 FIBA 3x3 basketball World Cup on Sunday at the Philippine Arena.

Slovenia topped Pool B followed by Poland, with Estonia falling just short as they had five fewer points than Poland.

Latvia, meanwhile, swept Pool D, while Ukraine came in second place.

Here are the results of the men's games at the Philippine Arena:

Estonia 17, Poland 13

Estonia racked up its third win in as many games and moved a step closer to the quarterfinals by downing Poland. Joonas Järveläinen led the way with eight points.

Japan 18, Indonesia 11

Japan got its first win of the competition against Indonesia. Keita Suzuki starred for Japan with seven points; Fil-Indonesia Biboy Enguio led his team with five points in a losing effort.

Slovenia 21, Estonia 15

Second-seeded Slovenia handed Estonia its first loss in Pool B. Gašper Ovnik was dominant, scoring 11 points including three long-range bombs and three free throws.

Poland 20, Japan 16

Poland wrapped up its group round schedule with a win over Japan. Pawel Pawlowski led the way with nine points, while Michael Hicks added six – including the long jumper inside the final minute that helped Poland fend off Japan's last-ditch rally.

Slovenia 21, Indonesia 7

Slovenia earned a quarterfinals spot by crushing Indonesia, with Gašper Ovnik scoring nine points. They finished with a 3-1 record in Pool B – same as Poland and Estonia. However, Slovenia took the top seed followed by Poland.

Latvia 21, Croatia 19

Latvia made it three wins in three games with a tight victory over Croatia in Pool D action. Agnis Čavars led the way with seven points.

Nigeria 21, Jordan 7

Nigeria claimed its first win of the tournament with a dominant victory over Jordan. David Godwin outscored Jordan by himself, as he fired eight points in the win.

Ukraine 22, Croatia 11

Ukraine stayed in the hunt for a semifinals spot with a comfortable win over Croatia. Stanislav Timofeyenko was unstoppable, scoring 10 points from all angles to lead Ukraine to its second win of the group round.

Ukraine 21, Jordan 14

Ukraine made it two wins in a row with a win over Jordan. This time around, it was Maksym Zakurdaiev who took charge, scoring 13 points including five shot from long distance to lead his team to their third win of the group round.

Latvia 22, Nigeria 11

Latvia completed a sweep of Group D with an easy victory over Nigeria. Karlis Lasmanis led the way with 13 points.
