MANILA, Philippines -- Phoenix forward Calvin Abueva has yet to be reinstated by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), as he has yet to fulfill the requirements set by commissioner Willie Marcial.

This was explained by Marcial during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum on Tuesday.

"Na-hold dahil dito sa COVID (pandemic)," Marcial said of Abueva's efforts.

Abueva has been suspended indefinitely since June 2019, after a series of on-court incidents capped by a run-in with the girlfriend of then-Blackwater rookie Ray Parks Jr. He was also given a hefty fine by the league.

During the league's media day last February, Marcial said that Abueva was already in the "second stage" of his requirements.

However, when the league suspended its activities in March due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Abueva was also affected.

"Pag natapos niya 'yung pinag-uusapan namin," said Marcial. "May pinapagawa kaming requirements sa kanya. 'Pag natapos niya 'yun, i-evaluate namin, so doon ako makakapag-desisyon kung papaano."

"Siguro, eto baka dahan-dahan na magagawa niya 'yung mga requirements namin," he added. "The sooner, the better."
