Senator and world champion boxer Manny Pacquiao on Tuesday denied discussing with his former promoter Bob Arum about running for the presidency in 2022.
Although the 8-weight-division champion acknowledged speaking to Arum recently about the proposed Terence Crawford fight, Pacquiao denied sharing his political plans with the Top Rank promoter.
"Nag-usap kami about Crawford, pero hindi naman namin pinag-usapan 'yung politics," he told ABS-CBN News' Dyan Castillejo.
Arum said in an undated video that Pacquiao has already told him of his political plans.
"(He) told me, once again, I did a Zoom telephone call with him, 'Bob, I'm gonna run in 2022, and when I win, I want you there at my inauguration," said Arum.
Arum said he believes Pacquiao will be the first fighter to reach a country's highest office.
The 41-year-old Pacquiao, meanwhile, confirmed favoring a possible bout with the unbeaten Crawford.
"Yes, we discussed the fight against Terence Crawford. Wala namang problema, maganda 'yun," he said.
It will be a champion versus champion fight if it pushes through, as Crawford owns the WBO welterweight crown while Pacquiao is the reigning WBA champion.
"(Lalaban tayo) pagka may vaccine na 'yung corona virus," Pacquiao said. "Depende naman pagka safe na ang mga tao at para for my own good."
