MANILA, Philippines—Six teams chasing the last 2 semifinal berths step up their respective drives on Saturday, as they clash in the quarterfinals of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference at FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Tacloban, Iriga-Navy, and Petro Gazz will try to score a repeat over their respective opponents, as they seek to gain momentum in the single-round phase.
Tacloban opens the day's slate of games when the Fighting Warays take on BanKo-Perlas at 2 p.m., while Iriga-Navy and BaliPure battle at 4 p.m.
Petro Gazz and Pocari face off at 6 p.m.
The top two teams at the end of the round-robin will join outright semifinalists Creamline and PayMaya.
The Tacloban Fighting Warays, one of the league's newcomers, were impressive with their effort in the preliminaries, and just fell short of an outright semifinals spot.
With Hyapha Amporn and Patcharee Sangmuan, together with locals Jovielyn Prado, Shola Alvarez and Heather Guino-o, the Fighting Warays are hoping to reassert their mastery over Perlas.
Tacloban defeated Perlas in 4 sets when they played on May 2.
In the second game, the Iriga Navy Lady Oragons, bannered by the foreign duo of Macy Ubben and Lauren Whyte, seek to duplicate their only win in their eliminations, a four-set romp over the BaliPure Water Defenders.
The Petro Gazz Angels, meanwhile, hope to pounce on the slumping Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors in the main event.
The Angels will once again lean on Anastasia Trach and Olena Lymareva-Flink, together with locals Cherry Rose Nunag, Ranya Musa, Rachel Austero and playmaker Relea Saet.
PLDT and Instituto Estetico Manila, meanwhile, clash at 10 a.m. in the men’s division of the league.
Cignal HD and newcomer Vice Co. took the first two automatic semis seats by posting identical 4-1 slates in the elims, leaving PLDT, Air Force, Instituto Estetico Manila and Army to fight for the other two Final Four berths.
All teams in both divisions carry clean slates in the quarters.
