MANILA, Philippines -- Former De La Salle University star Majoy Baron is the latest Filipino athlete to be featured on the FIVB website, where she shared her volleyball journey as well as her modeling career.
Baron, a former UAAP Most Valuable Player, admitted that she was not a standout player in high school, and only got two scholarship offers. Her decision to play for La Salle was "one of the best… I have ever made," as it allowed her to develop into one of the best players in the country.
Before she focused on volleyball full time, however, Baron was a veteran of beauty pageants -- something she had to give up when she committed to the Lady Spikers.
It was after her UAAP career that Baron began to pursue modeling again, with help from her manager Suki Salvador. From "test shoots" to beauty editorials to magazine covers, Baron is now a full-fledged model while still playing volleyball at high level.
"I'm happy that my body of work now includes walking for the top designers in the country for the last three years," said Baron.
Her modeling career has not kept her from excelling in her sport. Baron was part of the national team that competed in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, and was named the Best Middle Blocker in the 2019 ASEAN Grand Prix.
"Not only was I recognized internationally, but I was able to bring pride and joy to be my beloved country," she said.
"In modeling, it was the Vogue Italia feature."
"It was one of the most challenging and difficult shoots for me. I'm glad I had the best people behind the scenes," she added.
