MANILA -- Phoenix coach Louie Alas admitted that the Fuel Masters face a serious test against Meralco on Friday following a series of setbacks that hit the team.

Apart from losing two straight games, Phoenix will have to play without top forward Calvin Abueva who was banned indefinitely by the league following his run-in with TNT import Terrence Jones.

Phoenix will also be fielding a replacement import in Richard Howell after main reinforcement Rob Dozier went down with an injury.

"No Calvin, new import, coming off a big and disappointing loss. It will be a huge challenge for us, especially for me as captain of the ship," Alas told the PBA website.

"Wala kaming topic kung 'di move forward and bounce back,” he said. “Preparation is good. As much as possible ang schemes namin is very simple: no complications para madaling ma-digest ni Rich Howell."

Phoenix is hoping to rise after a bruising game against TNT over the weekend that resulted in Alas getting slapped with a two-game suspension and Abueva being meted an indefinite suspension, apart from huge fines.
