Barring injuries, Christian Standhardinger will suit up for the Philippines when the FIBA 3x3 World Cup kicks off on Friday.
Team manager Butch Antonio said the lineup remains intact, despite reports that Standhardinger is recuperating from swelling in his left knee.
“Yes, he will be playing,” Antonio said during the FIBA 3X3 World Cup Philippines press conference at Seda in Vertis North, Quezon City on Thursday.
“Our lineup is intact. As a matter of fact, they practiced this afternoon. So it will be a go.”
Standhardinger was considered day-to-day for San Miguel Beer in the PBA due to the swelling in his knee, even missing his team’s last two games, a 104-97 overtime win over Barangay Ginebra last Sunday and a 129-117 rout over Columbian Dyip on Wednesday.
Antonio said the rest enabled Standhardinger to recuperate.
He added that he liked what he saw during the team practice.
“The spirit of the team was OK kanina. They were very active, talking a lot. Hopefully that translates to winning games. They're excited na. Everybody's excited na,” said Antonio.
Standardinger will team up with GlobalPort's Stanley Pringle and the TNT tandem of Troy Rosario and Roger Pogoy for the 3x3 World Cup.
“You have a very excited Stanley Pringle, who's just too happy to be part of the Philippine team. Then s’yempre yung gigil din nila Troy, Pogoy and Christian. We could probably pull off a few surprises here,” Antonio said.
The 19-seeded Philippines is clustered with Group C with Canada, Russia, Brazil, and Mongolia.
They will start group play in the World Cup on Saturday against Brazil and Mongolia.
