MANILA -- Mac Tan, coach of the inaugural Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) champion Batangas City Athletics-Tanduay, assured their players that the team won't stop them should they want to join the PBA Draft.
Tan has several former professionals in their roster like Bong Galanza and Val Acuna and even future PBA materials like Tey Teodoro and Bong Quinto who could join the 2018 PBA Draft.
“’Yun nga ang magiging problema ‘pag pumalo ang PBA Draft… kasi hindi namin sila haharangin,” said Tan. “Kasi ang Batangas City-Tanduay ayaw nila ‘yung pinipigilan ang players from seeking greener pastures. Of course, bigger ang salary doon. It’s every player’s dream to be in the PBA.”
Instead, what the team promises those who decide to stay is that they have more of a family culture.
Tan added that he will also make sure that the young ones will be armed with experience should they decide to make the jump to the bigger league.
“Ang plano ko is to use every player talaga. Walang mababangko para in the long run, may mage-gain sila sa amin,” said Tan.
He said he wants his younger players to learn from the experienced vets.
“Para ‘yung veterans makakakuha ng energy from the young guns, then ‘yung young guns makakakuha naman ng experience from them,” Tan said.
