The Philippine netball team put up a brave fight but eventually bowed to Brunei, 32-56, to wrap up a winless campaign in the Southeast Asian Games Thursday afternoon at the OCBC Arena Hall in Singapore.
The Filipinas kept in step with Brunei in the first quarter as the game was tied, 9-all, and they remained within striking distance after two quarters, 17-24.
But Brunei broke the game open in the third quarter, and held the Filipinas to only 15 points in the final two periods to post the victory.
Ana Thea Cenarosa led the Filipinas with 29 goals on 36 shots, and Danielle Castaneda added three goals despite suffering an injury in their previous game against Singapore.
The Filipinas lost all five of their assignments in the competition, all by huge margins.
The loss marked their formal elimination in the six-team tournament.
Nuz Haifzah Haji Abdul Sidek led Brunei with 30 points on 35 attempts.
"This is all part of our learning process. We're still a work in progress. Just give us more time, and we will soon blossom into a medal contender," coach Fransien Howarth told ABS-CBN Sports after the defeat.
