It’s unlikely that Javee Mocon is going to return and play for Rain Or Shine and the best option is to trade the talented forward from San Beda to another team.
But without any taker at this time, playing overseas is one of the options of the 6-foot-3 forward.
“ ’Yun ang sabi nu’ng agent niya. Kung wala talaga siyang mapupuntahang team, they might look for an opportunity playing overseas,” Caloy Garcia, head of basketball of operations of Rain Or Shine, told ABS-CBN News.
PJ PIlares, Mocon’s agent, added that playing overseas will be an option for his player only if he won’t have conflict with the PBA.
“If they (PBA) will allow him,” replied Pilares via Messenger.
PBA commissioner Willie Marcial clarified that since Mocon is no longer under contract, he can play overseas if he wants, but clarified Rain Or Shine will still hold his playing rights once he returns.
Mocon’s contract has already expired, but the Elasto Painters own his playing rights, which means the only way he can play for another team is if a trade can be consummated between Rain Or Shine and another squad.
Garcia added that none among the negotiations have gone forward at this time as teams were having reservations of unloading their first-round pick next year. Rain Or Shine is looking for a first-round pick in exchange for Mocon, but teams are just willing to throw in another player in exchange for the free agent forward.
Garcia explained that Rain Or Shine has no plans of making things complicated for Mocon, but the team is just looking for a fair deal for the player.
"Wala naman kaming planong ipitin si Javee, but we want a fair deal. Gusto rin namin maayos na ito so we can all move forward," added Garcia.
With only two weeks to go before the opening of the new season, Rain Or Shine decided to fill up the remaining spots in the team and the Elasto Painters just re-signed forward Vince Tolentino, who was given a one-conference deal.
