Actor and now celebrity baller Gerald Anderson hopes to play more games in the coming season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, despite a hectic calendar.
Anderson, who recently transferred from the Marikina Shoemasters club to the Imus Bandera, told ABS-CBN News he is already ironing out his schedule so he can participate in more games and team practices.
“It's more than the game, pati sa practice na rin. Ito 'yung pinakaimportante sa akin 'yung practice. Let's see, ngayon pa lang ginagawa ko 'yung best ko para ayusin ko ang schedule ko,” said the actor, while taking a breather from a team practice Saturday.
Anderson made his MPBL debut with Marikina last season, where he played a total of 19 games.
“Given the schedule na meron ako, it's not bad na nakalaro ako ng 19 games. Siyempre this season sana mas marami pa,” he said.
Anderson said everything is well with his former team despite his exit.
“Andami kong natutunan doon sa experience ko with Marikina . . . 'Yung ginagawa ko ngayon hindi ko magagawa kundi sa mga natutunan ko kay (Marikina) coach Elvis Tolentino,” he said.
For his part, Imus coach Budds Reyes said he likes what Anderson has been doing in practice.
“He looks good on the court. Ang galing ng defense, then offense kung ano'ng gusto mong ipagawa, ginagawa niya. Napakabait, very serious, very focused,” he said.
“Pwede siyang maging (basketball) superstar. Magandang kumilos. If I let him run the offense 1-on-1 kayang lumusot. For an actor, nakakapagtaka he plays basketball very well.”
The new MPBL season opens on June 12.
