The Philippines women's national basketball team advanced to the knockout stage of the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup on Friday, arranging a meeting with a familiar opponent.
Gilas Pilipinas lost to Japan 20-8 in Changsha city, China, but inflicted a 21-6 beating on Sri Lanka to split its record in Pool C, good enough for a place in the quarterfinals.
That mean the Filipinas will take on Australia next, after the latter topped Pool A, which features equally formidable squad New Zealand and top seed China.
Japan, which topped Pool C, takes on New Zealand next, with host China shown the door.
The Gilas-Australia game is on Sunday, May 26.
The Philippines side is composed of Jack Animam, Afril Bernardino, Clare Castro and Janine Pontejos.
