LOS ANGELES -- Manny Pacquiao and Kieth Thurman each have their own mission on fight night.
It's age vs youth, two of the best, determined to be the undisputed WBA welterweight champion on July 20 in Las Vegas.
Thurman is looking to put a stop to the "Pacman hop" and send him to the Philippine senate.
"Me and Manny have some of the same visions in the sport of boxing. All I really wanna do is go out there and give my best fight. I believe in my fight the way he believes in himself," said Thurman during the Beverly Hills leg of their press tour.
"My best performance defeats Manny Pacquiao's and I will stay undefeated... this is really just a great fight it’s an honor to share the ring with Manny Pacquiao."
Pacquiao, on the other hand, is looking to give the undefeated WBA "super" welterweight champion his first loss.
"Naniniwala ako na maraming aksyon. Maganda ang laban dahil he promised he will fight toe-to-toe with me. And he’s undefeated," said Pacquiao.
"Magandang ito kalaban natin. It gives more motivation. Mamo-motivate ka because he’s undefeated. You have to work hard, show 100-percent condition. Lahat gagawin ko."
Making this match up a bit more complicated is that Pacquiao and Thurman do not have any similar opponent. Thurman did, however, beat former Pacquiao sparmate Shawn Porter, the current WBC welterweight champion.
Coach Freddie Roach has already reached out to Porter.
"I called Shawn asked him to be one of the sparring partners he said he’ll think about it. We’ll see," said Roach.
Pacquiao will begin his training camp in the Philippines with Polangui, Albay vice mayor-elect Buboy Fernandez, before the team heads to Los Angeles around the first week of July.
