Bryan Bagunas tested negative for COVID-19 and was cleared to go home after almost a week since he arrived from Japan.

The Philippines men’s national volleyball team star received his swab test result on Thursday, six days after he arrived in Manila.

In a tweet by ABS-CBN News' Dyan Castillejo, the 2019 Southeast Asian Games silver medalist got the result, thanks to the help of  Vince Dizon, deputy chief implementer of the national policy against COVID-19; Department of Tourism secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat; and Philippine Sports Commission chairman William Ramirez.

Bagunas, who plays for Oita Miyoshi Weiss Adler in the Japan V. Premier League, on Wednesday aired on Twitter his concerns over how long it took to get the results back.

Like other overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and others flying in from abroad, Bagunas was swabbed as part of government measures.

He was holed up at a Quezon City hotel while waiting to be cleared.

The two-time UAAP champion and Season 81 Most Valuable Player flew in after the cancellation of a preseason tournament in Japan.

Bagunas, a native of Balayan town, Batangas, plans to fly back to Japan in August or September.
