MANILA, Philippines – With back-to-back UAAP titles in the bag, National University (NU) coach Dante Alinsunurin can focus on preparing the Philippine men's volleyball team for the Southeast Asian Games.
Alinsunurin, who was officially named the head coach of the men's team in February, already has plans for the squad to train abroad later this year. A 14-man line-up should be unveiled by the next month, too.
"Actually nage-ensayo na rin kami ngayon," the coach said of the national team pool. "Sana magtuloy-tuloy lang ang gusto naming mangyari sa practice namin."
"By July, lalabas na rin kami para sa training, sa November din, para sa international training," he added.
According to Alinsunurin, they intend to train in China in July, and in Japan in the first week of November.
Alinsunurin, who led NU past Far Eastern University in the UAAP Season 81 finals, had earlier named 20 players to the men's national team pool.
Among the players are NU standouts Bryan Bagunas, Fauzi Ismail, Kim Malabunga, Francis Saura, and Ricky Marcos. Also included are former Ateneo de Manila University stars Marck Espejo and Ish Polvorosa.
