MANILA - As the reigning MVP Sisi Rondina set to depart from the Tigers’ lair, her counterpart Eya Laure is looking forward to bringing the lessons she learned from the UST Tigresses’ team captain as they marched on to the next season.
The rookie of the year lauded the enormous contribution of Rondina to the team and how she lifted UST back to the volleyball map of UAAP with her leadership and unequaled effort every game.
Laure, who chipped in 10 points in Game 3 loss against Ateneo Lady Eagles, admired the diminutive spiker’s love for the black and gold community, the same affection she wants to return to the fans.
Laure told reporters she will try to copy the examples shown to her by Rondina all throughout the season coming to the succeeding years of her UAAP career.
‘Yun ‘yung sobrang bilib ko kay Ate Sisi,” the best open hitter of the league said.
Laure also penned her team captain a tear-jerking message, thanking Rondina for her understanding and love. On her Twitter account, she said she will be missing the late night text exchanges between them.
"Isang karangalan na naging teammate po kita kahit isang taon lang po dahil andami kong natutunan sa isang Sisi Rondina na dadalhin ko sa buong buhay ko," Laure said on her post.
She also praised Rondina’s sacrifices at an early age to help her family through the salary she received from playing to club teams such as in Foton Tornadoes and Petron in the Philippine Superliga.
Indeed, Laure got another sister from Sisi Rondina as her real sibling EJ Laure skipped this season due to injury recovery.
She then downplayed her supposed assumption as the next leader of the Tigresses, explaining she is not yet ready to take on the lead role especially that key players who might return to the team are not yet sure of making it to the lineup come Season 82.
Aside from EJ, UST missed the services of Milena Alessandrini and Tin Francisco because of injuries.
