MANILA, Philippines—Make it five.
That's how many championships the Ravena siblings — Kiefer, Thirdy, and Dani — have won in the UAAP seniors division after the Ateneo Lady Eagles secured the women's volleyball crown in Season 81 on Saturday afternoon.
With her older brothers among the more than 21,000-strong crowd that packed Mall of Asia Arena, Dani played a major role in helping Ateneo sweep University of Santo Tomas, 25-17, 25-22, 25-22. The libero registered 13 digs, and even tallied a point in the closeout third set. She also had 7 receptions in the game.
The title — Dani's first — hiked the Ravena siblings' haul to five trophies. Kiefer won 2 basketball championships in Seasons 74 and 75, while Thirdy anchored Ateneo's run to back-to-back titles in Seasons 80 and 81.
The older Ravena brothers were the picture of pride on Saturday, as they watched how their younger sister came up with big plays repeatedly for the Lady Eagles.
"Alam ko, si Dani grabe din ang pinag-daanan niya. The pressure that she's facing and how she handled it, I'm just really proud of her," said Thirdy.
Kiefer added: "It's been a struggle for Dani through the year, but she stuck with it. She gathered herself. She thought about her team first rather than how bad or good she was playing. This is just cherry on top of a great experience for them."
Watching the game was "stressful," said Thirdy, and Kiefer revealed that he has barely seen their sister because of how dedicated Dani was to the finals.
But it was all worth it to see their sister join them as champions.
"It paid off," said Thirdy. "Lahat ng paghihirap nila, everything is bearing fruit right now."
"We told her na one day, she'll win her own," said Kiefer. "The day has finally come. She played well, too. Hindi lang part ng team."
