During the ongoing battle against COVID-19, Jaybie Mantilla is proving that he can do so much to help others even at the Sangguniang Kabataan level.

The one-time UP Fighting Maroons player who suited up for Cebu-Casino Ethyl Alcohol in the MPBL this past season is also SK chairman of Barangay Suba in Cebu city.

Mantilla acknowledged initially drawing skepticism from the public.

"May mga issue na talaga dati pa na huwag daw akong iboto kasi puro paliga lang yan," he said.

"But all I need to do is do my part at doon makikita ng mga tao na mali sila, na hindi kami magfo-focus sa basketball lang."

During the pandemic, Mantilla, 24, and his group have handed out face masks, hygiene kits, and vitamins to the youth and senior citizens in his village.

The former CESAFI MVP has also donated half his one month's salary as an MPBL player to add to the youth council's budget.

He's made some sacrifices, too, to keep his family safe.
