MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas (UST) stars Sisi Rondina and Eya Laure earned the top individual awards in the UAAP Season 81 women's volleyball tournament, after having sensational campaigns for the Golden Tigresses.
Rondina will be formally named the UAAP Most Valuable Player on Wednesday, ahead of Game 2 of the finals, while Laure will receive the Rookie of the Year trophy.
The high-scoring pair are trying to lead the Golden Tigresses to their first championship since Season 72. UST leads Ateneo de Manila University, 1-0, in the best-of-3 finals series.
Laure, who matched the achievement of her sister EJ in Season 77, is also the second straight UST player to win Rookie of the Year honors after Fil-Italian Milena Alessandrini last year. She also won 1st Best Outside Hitter honors.
Rondina is the first MVP to come from UST since Venus Bernal in Season 69. She also takes home the 2nd Best Outside Hitter award.
Meanwhile, Roselyn Doria of National University (NU) is the 1st Best Middle Blocker, and Maddie Madayag of Ateneo is the 2nd Best Middle Blocker.
Ateneo's Kat Tolentino won Best Opposite Hitter honors, while University of the East's (UE) Lai Bendong is this year's Best Setter and UE's Kath Arado is the Best Libero.
NU rookie Princess Robles earned the Best Server award after norming 0.48 ace per set this year.
